Foreigners Preferred Istanbul and Antalya the Most for Housing Purchase

Despite the coronavirus, residential sales to foreigners in Turkey increased by 26.1% in September. Foreigners mostly preferred Istanbul and Antalya provinces for housing purchases. These sales made in the provinces are more than half of sales in Turkey to foreigners.

Coronavirus Continues to Affect the World

The real estate sales to foreigners were negatively affected by the suspension of flights to all countries due to coronavirus in March and April. Although strong demand in Turkey, foreign clients have not come to Turkey to purchase real estate.

As of July 1, with the start of gradual flights to countries and online sales, increases in housing sales to foreigners began to appear. September sales increased compared to the same period last year.

In September 2020, Istanbul took first place in housing sales to foreigners with 2370 sales. Istanbul was followed by Antalya with 1018 house sales, Ankara with 347 house sales, Bursa with 239 house sales, and Mersin with 191 house sales. 3,388 housing sales, corresponding to 64 percent of the total sales, took place in Istanbul and Antalya.

The housing sales in İstanbul, which is the most preferred by foreigners in Turkey, to foreigners increased by 23.2 percent in September compared to the same period last year. Due to the negative effects of the period between March and July, when life stopped due to coronavirus, there was a 16 percent decrease in İstanbul with more than 40 percent of sales in general in Turkey.

Iran ranks first in the list of foreigners buying housing in Turkey. Iraq, Russia, Afghanistan, and Azerbaijan follow Iran, respectively.
